Built for Smart Home: the RT-AX57 router uses WiFi 6 (802.11ax) to handle many connected devices with improved network capacity and efficiency. It delivers extended signal range, smoother performance and a combined throughput up to 3,000 Mbps, making it faster than typical 802.11ac 2x2 dual-band routers. The router supports WPA3 for stronger wireless security and includes AiProtection Classic with automatic updates to help block malicious sites and detect infected devices. Instant Guard VPN enables one-click secure access on public WiFi, and the device can join or expand an AiMesh network for flexible coverage growth. The ASUS Router App provides guided setup and easy control of features.

Advantages

WiFi 6 technology increases network capacity and efficiency for multiple devices and extends coverage up to around 80% farther compared with previous generations. BSS Coloring improves connection efficiency in crowded environments by allowing the router to ignore differently tagged neighboring traffic. WPA3 adds modern cryptographic protections for personal networks. AiProtection Classic offers lifetime free security updates and malware blocking, while Instant Guard VPN secures public WiFi access with one-click setup. The router supports AiMesh for scalable coverage and is managed via a user-friendly mobile app.

Key specifications

WiFi standard: WiFi 6 (802.11ax)
Total maximum throughput: up to 3,000 Mbps (combined)
Performance vs previous gen: approximately 1.5× faster than 802.11ac 2x2 dual-band routers
Coverage: up to ~80% increased range vs prior generation (WiFi 5)
Efficiency feature: BSS Coloring for improved operation in dense networks
Security: WPA3 support
Built-in protection: AiProtection Classic with automatic updates (free for life)
VPN: Instant Guard one-click VPN for secure public WiFi use
Network expansion: AiMesh-compatible for adding additional routers
Management: ASUS Router mobile app for setup and control

How to use

Connect the RT-AX57 to your modem and power it on, then use the ASUS Router App or web interface to follow guided setup steps. Configure your SSID and password, enable WPA3 if supported by your client devices, and activate AiProtection Classic for continuous security updates. To secure public WiFi sessions, enable Instant Guard VPN within the app for a one-click encrypted connection. If wider coverage is needed, add another AiMesh-compatible router and follow the app’s instructions to integrate it into the network. Regularly update firmware through the app to ensure ongoing performance and security.

Recommendations

For best results, use WPA3-capable client devices where possible, place the router centrally for optimal coverage, and keep firmware and AiProtection updates enabled. To maximize throughput and BSS Coloring benefits, connect WiFi 6 clients and use the ASUS Router App for configuration and monitoring.

Giudizio: Overall, it's hard not to be impressed by such a small router overflowing with features. We've reviewed travel routers previously, and they didn't support Mesh or have USB file sharing like this one does. Perhaps Asus needed to be more selective about what...
