Filtro a banda stretta O-III da 2 pollici Explore Scientific 12 nm

The 2" O-III Narrowband Filter Explore Scientific 12 nm isolates the doubly ionized oxygen (O-III) emission lines to increase contrast for planetary nebulae and supernova remnants during both visual observation and astrophotography. Mounted in a 2" format, this filter is compatible with standard 2" filter holders and visual eyepieces, and its 12 nm full width at half maximum (FWHM) offers a focused passband that reduces skyglow and improves the visibility of faint emission objects under light-polluted or moonlit skies.

Advantages

The 12 nm bandwidth provides a narrow, targeted transmission that enhances contrast by passing O-III emission while blocking much of the background continuum and common sources of light pollution. The 2" optical cell format ensures direct compatibility with many eyepieces and visual filter wheels, allowing easy installation and reliable mechanical fit. The filter’s spectral characteristics favor increased signal-to-noise for emission-line nebulae, facilitating clearer visual detail and improved data quality in dedicated astrophotography workflows.

Suitable for

• Visual observation of planetary nebulae and supernova remnants
• Astrophotography using 2" filter holders or visual filter wheels
• Observing under suburban or moonlit sky conditions
• Use with refractors and reflectors that accept 2" accessories

Key specifications

• Filter type: O-III narrowband
• Format: 2-inch optical cell
• Bandwidth: 12 nm full width at half maximum (FWHM)
• Primary transmission: tuned to doubly ionized oxygen emission lines
• Suitable for: visual use and astrophotography

How to use

Install the 2" O-III filter into a compatible 2" filter holder, visual filter wheel, or directly into a 2" eyepiece thread if available. For visual observing, insert the filter between the eyepiece and instrument and allow a short period for the eye to adapt to the altered contrast. For imaging, place the filter in the light path before the camera sensor; exposure times will typically be longer than with broadband filters, so adjust integration time and stacking accordingly. Aim the telescope at emission-line targets and use precise focusing, as the narrow passband emphasizes fine structural detail.

Recommendations

For best results, combine longer total integration in astrophotography with careful calibration frames; for visual use, pair the filter with medium- to high-power eyepieces to resolve nebular structure. The filter performs well on targets dominated by O-III emission and in conditions with moderate light pollution or moonlight.
