HDD Lenovo ThinkSystem 1.8TB 2.5in 10K 00YK017-RFB

The Lenovo ThinkSystem 1.8TB 2.5in 10K 00YK017-RFB is a 2.5-inch enterprise hard disk drive with 1.8TB capacity and a 10,000 RPM rotational speed. Built for data-intensive server and storage environments, this SAS-attached HDD delivers a balance of performance and reliability in a compact form factor. The drive is intended for use in Lenovo ThinkSystem platforms and compatible servers where high IOPS, predictable latency, and efficient rack density are required.

Advantages

The drive combines a 1.8TB capacity with a 10K RPM spindle to provide faster access times compared with lower-RPM HDDs while maintaining higher capacity than typical enterprise SSDs at comparable cost per gigabyte. The 2.5-inch format supports dense storage configurations and reduces space consumption in server chassis. The SAS interface ensures sustained transfer rates and enterprise-class interoperability, and the Lenovo ThinkSystem part number 00YK017-RFB indicates compatibility and firmware integration with Lenovo server management features.

Suitable for

• Database servers and transactional workloads requiring consistent I/O performance
• Virtualization hosts and hyperconverged infrastructure nodes
• Capacity-optimized storage tiers within enterprise arrays
• High-availability server clusters and RAID arrays

How to use

Install the HDD into a compatible 2.5-inch drive bay in a Lenovo ThinkSystem server or other supported enterprise chassis. Ensure the server is powered down according to the vendor’s service manual before inserting or removing drives. Connect the SAS backplane or cable and secure the drive with appropriate sled or mounting hardware. After physical installation, verify that the firmware and RAID controller recognize the drive in system diagnostics or the management interface, then configure RAID or storage pools according to your deployment plan.

Recommendations

Use this drive in mixed storage configurations where a balance of capacity and consistent rotational performance is required. For write-intensive databases or latency-sensitive workloads, consider combining 10K HDDs with caching SSDs or placing them in RAID configurations that provide redundancy and improved access times. Follow Lenovo's maintenance guidelines for firmware updates and monitor drive health with server management tools to ensure reliability.
