Lithium-Ion
The APC SCL500RMI1UC uses Li-Ion batteries, which provides unique advantages:

PowerChute
By connecting the UPS to a maximum of one server via a USB cable, it can automatically provide it with a shutdown signal during a prolonged power failure and thus still prevent a hard shutdown. This exact moment can be set via the free APC PowerChute Business Edition software.

Battery life
You can easily read the expected battery life in the runtime graph, which you can find between the product images. This way you can easily see how long the UPS will provide emergency power at a certain load.

Rack/tower/wall convertible
The APC Smart-UPS SCL is rack/tower/wall convertible. This means that both the feet and the front post rack mounting brackets are included. This means that you can mount the UPS both horizontally in a rack(1U), but also vertically, i.e. upright. This UPS is also suitable for wall mounting. The wall mount brackets make it easy to mount the UPS on the wall in, for example, the meter cupboard.

How to use

Install the UPS into a compatible 1U rack space or place it on a stable surface that accommodates the unit’s short depth. Connect critical equipment to the four C13 AC outlets and plug the UPS mains input into a properly grounded AC supply. Follow the manufacturer’s startup procedure to perform an initial battery charge and configure any on-board or connected monitoring interface for graceful shutdown settings and alarm thresholds. Test the battery backup by simulating an AC power interruption to confirm connected loads receive uninterrupted power and that shutdown routines trigger as expected.

Recommendations

Place the UPS in a ventilated location free from excessive dust and heat. Schedule periodic battery self-tests and firmware or management software updates where available. Avoid loading the UPS beyond its 400 W rating and distribute connected devices across the available outlets to maintain balanced loads. For mission-critical deployments, pair the unit with a monitoring system or external management card to receive alerts and automate orderly shutdowns.
