The Canon EOS R100 is a compact mirrorless camera featuring a 24.1 MP CMOS sensor and a maximum image resolution of 6000×4000 pixels. Designed for photographers who need a lightweight and portable system, the camera records 4K video, provides a maximum native ISO up to 25600 and supports shutter speeds up to 1/4000 s. The body is finished in black and is supplied with an 18–45mm kit lens, an electronic viewfinder and a 3-inch rear display, making it suitable for travel, everyday photography and low-light shooting.

Advantages

The EOS R100 offers a balance of image quality and portability with its 24.1 MP CMOS sensor combined with compact MILC body design. The camera’s ability to capture 4K video and high-resolution stills at 6000×4000 expands creative options for both photos and video. A wide ISO range and fast shutter capability support shooting in varied lighting conditions, while the included 18–45mm lens and electronic viewfinder contribute to a straightforward, ready-to-use system.

Suitable for

  • Travel and street photography where compact size and light weight are important
  • Everyday and family photography for high-resolution stills
  • Beginner and enthusiast photographers transitioning to mirrorless systems
  • Video capture in 4K for vlogging or short-form content
  • Low-light shooting when higher ISO sensitivity is required

Key specifications

  • Sensor: 24.1 MP CMOS sensor
  • Maximum image resolution: 6000 × 4000 pixels
  • Camera type: Mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera (MILC)
  • Video: 4K recording capability
  • ISO sensitivity: up to ISO 25600 (maximum)
  • Shutter speed: up to 1/4000 s
  • Viewfinder: electronic viewfinder
  • Rear display: 3-inch screen
  • Included lens: 18–45 mm kit lens
  • Colour: Black

How to use

Install the supplied 18–45mm lens by aligning the mount marks and turning until it locks. Power on the camera and set the shooting mode using the mode dial or the camera’s menus. For stills, select an appropriate aperture and shutter speed or choose an automatic/scene mode for simplified operation. Use the electronic viewfinder or the 3-inch rear display to compose images and review shots. For video, select 4K recording in the video settings and adjust exposure and autofocus behavior as needed. Transfer images to a computer or mobile device via the camera’s connection options for editing and sharing.

Recommendations

For travel and street use, pair the compact body with the supplied 18–45mm lens and use aperture priority or program modes for quick responsiveness. When shooting in low light, raise ISO gradually and review images for acceptable noise levels; consider using a tripod for longer exposures. For video, stabilize the camera or use a gimbal and select appropriate autofocus settings to maintain focus during movement.

“The Canon EOS R100 looks like a pretty dated camera in every sense, and it'll feel alien if you've only used a smartphone camera before. However, don't judge a book by its cover – it actually makes perfect sense for people looking for a cheap camera…”

“Smartphones are undoubtedly the world's most-used cameras, but some would argue that they're not real cameras at all. By reducing the act of photo and video capture to mere point and shoot, they take much of the thought and process out of it.”

Pro
  • Lightweight and compact build
  • Good human face-tracking autofocus
  • Can shoot 4K video (at 24/25fps)
Contro
  • No in-camera USB charging
  • Fixed screen with no touch function
  • Rolling shutter during video capture
