Disco fisso Western Digital WD Caviar Blue 500 GB 7200 giri/min

Western Digital WD Caviar Blue 500GB 7200RPM is an internal 3.5-inch hard disk drive designed for desktop computers. With a 500 gigabyte storage capacity and a 7200 RPM spindle speed, the drive delivers magnetic storage suitable for operating systems, applications, multimedia files and general data archiving. The drive uses standard SATA interface and is intended for mainstream desktop use where balanced capacity, performance and reliability are required.

Advantages

The Caviar Blue 500GB offers faster rotational speed compared with lower-RPM desktop drives, which typically reduces access and load times for frequently used files and applications. Its 500GB capacity provides space for an operating system plus a selection of programs and personal media without requiring immediate external storage. The drive follows established desktop HDD design practices, providing predictable behaviour for system installs, file transfers and backups.

Suitable for

• Primary system drive for desktop PCs where moderate storage and improved access speed are needed
• Secondary internal storage for multimedia libraries, photos and documents
• Data archiving and periodic backups in home or small-office setups
• Replacement drive in older desktops that accept 3.5-inch SATA HDDs

When it may not be suitable

This HDD is not suited for workloads that require sustained high I/O performance or very low latency, such as high-concurrency database servers, intensive virtualization hosts or enterprise-class storage arrays. It is also less suitable where shock resistance and power efficiency of solid-state drives are preferred, for example in compact or battery-powered systems.

Key specifications

• Form factor: 3.5-inch internal hard drive
• Storage capacity: 500 gigabytes
• Rotational speed: 7200 RPM
• Interface: Serial ATA (SATA)
• Application: desktop/mid-tower computer use

How to use

Install the drive into a 3.5-inch drive bay inside a desktop computer, secure it with appropriate screws or tool-less brackets, and connect a SATA data cable to the motherboard and a SATA power connector from the power supply. Initialize and partition the drive using the operating system’s disk management tools, then format it to the desired file system before copying data or installing software. For best reliability, ensure the system chassis provides adequate airflow and mounting to minimise vibration and heat.

What to consider before purchase

• Confirm your desktop supports a 3.5-inch SATA hard drive and has available SATA power and data connectors
• Assess whether 500GB capacity matches your storage needs or whether a larger capacity or SSD would be more appropriate
• Consider backup strategy and whether this drive will be used as primary, secondary or archival storage

Recommendations

Use this WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDD as a system or secondary storage drive in desktop PCs where a balance of capacity and performance is required. For faster system responsiveness, consider combining it with a small SSD for the operating system while using this HDD for bulk storage and media libraries.
