The Homematic IP HmIP-HCU1 Wired & Wireless Home Control Unit in anthracite is a combined wired and wireless control centre for Homematic IP smart homes. Operating at 868 MHz with a wireless range up to 400 m and supporting Fast Ethernet and Wi‑Fi (802.11b/g/n/ac), it connects and manages devices locally or via the Homematic IP Cloud. The unit supports up to 350 devices (max. 120 wireless) and accepts integrations with Homematic wired products via CCU3 and Homematic IP Wired Access Point. It also provides an EEBUS interface for energy device integration and offers an HCUweb interface for local system configuration.

Advantages

The Homematic IP Home Control Unit offers flexible operation modes: online mode for cloud access, remote control via the Homematic IP App and voice assistants (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant), and automatic firmware updates; or offline mode for fully local operation with stored automation routines and no data sent to the cloud. Compact design allows tabletop or wall mounting and the unit supports plugin extensions (for example Philips Hue and CCU3 integration) to expand functionality. The device supports energy monitoring via EEBUS and will receive future software updates to enable direct control of EEBUS-integrated devices.

Use the HCUweb interface for direct local network and system settings if advanced configuration is required. Use supplied wall bracket for wall mounting or place the unit on a stable surface.

Recommendations

For reliable wireless range, position the Home Control Unit centrally and avoid obstacles that block radio transmission. Use online mode if remote access and voice assistant integration are needed; choose offline mode when local data privacy and independent operation are priorities. Keep firmware updated in online mode to receive new features and plugin support.
