A-mount lens adapter for E-mount cameras
A compact lens adapter with an elegant, cylindrical form factor that lets A-mount lens users take advantage of the outstanding AF performance provided by the latest E-mount camera bodies.

E-mount focal plane phase-detection AF for A-mount SSM and SAM lenses
This advanced adapter allows A-mount SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) and SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) lenses to be used with the latest E-mount camera bodies, with full support for wide-area focal plane phase-detection AF2, including subject-recognition features such as Real-time Eye AF (human & animal), Real-time Tracking, and more. Refer to “Compatibility” below for information on compatible bodies and lenses.

AF/AE tracking3 at up to 11 fps4 for SSM and SAM lenses
Used with the latest E-mount camera bodies, this advanced adapter makes A-mount SSM and SAM lenses compatible with the AF/AE tracking3 capability of E-mount bodies, even while shooting continuously at up to 11 fps4. Refer to “Compatibility” below for information on compatible bodies and lenses.

Accurate AF and AF/AE tracking3 for SSM, SAM, and motor-less lenses2
The LA-EA5 supports all A-mount lenses5, including models such as the Sonnar T* 135mm F1.8 ZA and Planar T* 85mm F1.4 ZA that do not have internal motors. Full support is provided for focal plane phase-detection AF, Real-time Eye AF (human & animal), Real-time Tracking, and continuous AF/AE tracking3 at up to 11 frames per second4. Refer to “Compatibility” below for information on compatible bodies and lenses.

Compact cylindrical design and comfortable operation
A newly developed compact AF drive unit and aperture drive unit are packaged in a sleek, high-performance cylindrical mount adapter. The adapter matches the diameter of the A-mount so that nothing protrudes from the bottom of the mount when used on a compact E-mount body, ensuring comfortable hold and operation even when the camera is mounted on a vertical grip.

Sony LA-EA5. Lens adapter mount interface: Sony A, Product colour: Black. Weight: 88 g, Width: 66 mm, Depth: 66 mm

How to use

Attach the LA-EA5 to an E-mount camera body by aligning the adapter mount and locking it into place, then mount the A-mount lens onto the adapter until it clicks. Power on the camera and confirm in the camera menu that lens and AF functions are recognized; use the camera’s autofocus settings to select Real-time Eye AF or Real-time Tracking when available. For continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking, enable the appropriate drive mode on the camera and select a compatible shutter speed and exposure settings.

Recommendations

For best results, use the adapter with E-mount bodies listed as compatible by Sony and ensure your A-mount lenses’ firmware (if applicable) is up to date. Performance of autofocus, subject recognition, and continuous AF/AE tracking depends on the specific camera body and lens combination; consult compatibility information before critical shoots.
