The Wired HP Business Slim v2 Smartcard Keyboard is a full-size (100%) wired keyboard with a USB interface and a 1.8 m cable, designed for everyday professional use at home or in the office. It combines a standard layout with a slim profile and an integrated smartcard reader placed at the top of the keyboard for secure authentication. The black, durable housing and low-profile keys provide a compact, familiar typing experience while supporting physical security workflows.

Advantages

This keyboard offers an integrated smartcard reader that supports Class A, B and C cards to help protect against unauthorized firmware changes and improve authentication security. The full-size layout includes a number pad and function keys for efficient data entry and navigation. Low-profile keys with lubricated mechanisms reduce typing noise and a built-in spill drain improves resilience to minor liquid incidents. A 1.8 m USB cable ensures reliable wired connectivity and flexible placement on a desk.

How to use

Connect the keyboard to an available USB port on your PC using the attached 1.8 m cable. Insert an appropriate smartcard into the reader slot located at the top of the keyboard to use card-based authentication with compatible systems. Use the full-size keyset, including the numeric keypad and function keys, as you would with a standard desktop keyboard. If a key indicator light is present, monitor Caps Lock, Num Lock and Scroll Lock status via the indicator lights.

Recommendations

Place the keyboard on a stable desk surface and route the USB cable to avoid strain. Keep the smartcard reader slot free of debris and remove cards after authentication. For minor spills, power down the system and follow manufacturer guidance for cleaning; the built-in spill drain helps reduce damage from small incidents but does not eliminate the need for proper cleaning and drying.
