CBO cavo ottico attivo AOC SFP28 Fortinet SFP28-AOC-5M 5 m

CBO Active Optical Cable AOC SFP28 Fortinet SFP28-AOC-5M 5 m is a 5‑meter active optical cable designed for use with SFP28 ports and compatible Fortinet hardware. Built for 25GbE links between switches, servers and storage systems, this AOC provides an optical connection that reduces electromagnetic interference and offers lower power consumption and lighter cabling compared with equivalent copper direct-attach solutions. The cable is intended for short-reach, high‑speed interconnects in data centers, server rooms and network equipment racks.

Advantages

The active optical design delivers stable 25GbE throughput with reduced heat dissipation and improved signal integrity over short distances. Being lightweight and flexible, the cable eases cable management in dense rack environments and helps maintain airflow. Its plug-and-play SFP28 interfaces eliminate the need for separate transceivers and patch cords, simplifying installation and lowering overall port-to-port latency.

Suitable for

• 25GbE connections between switches and top-of-rack devices
• Server-to-switch connectivity in data center racks
• High-density cabling runs where reduced weight and space are needed
• Short-reach optical links to minimize electromagnetic interference

Key specifications

• Connector type: SFP28 on both ends for 25GbE interfaces
• Cable length: 5 meters designed for short-reach links
• Physical medium: active optical fiber for low insertion loss
• Data rate: supports 25 Gbit/s per channel
• Power consumption: lower than equivalent copper DAC solutions
• Form factor: compact transceiver-style plugs for standard SFP28 ports

How to use

Install the AOC by inserting each SFP28 connector into the corresponding SFP28 port on network devices until the latch clicks. Ensure devices are powered and network interfaces are configured for 25GbE operation; the link typically negotiates automatically. Route the cable to avoid sharp bends and mechanical stress; maintain recommended bend radius for optical fibers. For firmware or platform compatibility, verify that Fortinet and other vendor switch firmware accept third‑party AOC modules if required by the device.

Recommendations

For reliable performance, keep the cable free from kinks, avoid tight bundling with power cables, and place it in rack pathways that preserve airflow. Confirm compatibility with the equipment vendor’s SFP28 port policies and perform a quick link test after installation to verify 25GbE connectivity and error-free operation.
