Obiettivo Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM

The Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 is a compact, lightweight prime lens for Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras. Its bright f/1.8 aperture enables strong low-light performance and shallow depth of field, while a 50 mm focal length provides a natural, versatile perspective. The lens offers a close focusing distance of 0.3 m and is designed with optical elements and an STM stepping motor to deliver quiet, reliable autofocus for both stills and video.

Advantages

The RF 50mm f/1.8 combines a wide maximum aperture with a small, lightweight design, making it easy to carry and use all day. Its f/1.8 aperture produces smooth background blur and improves performance in dim conditions. A redesigned optical layout for the RF mount and a quiet STM autofocus motor allow smooth, near-silent focusing and good image quality across typical shooting scenarios.

Suitable for

• Portrait photography
• Everyday walkaround and street photography
• Low-light and indoor shooting
• Close-up detail shots at 0.3 m minimum focus
• Video recording requiring quiet autofocus

How to use

Attach the lens to a Canon RF-mount mirrorless camera using the mount index. Use the wide f/1.8 aperture to isolate subjects and improve low-light exposure; stop down as needed for greater depth of field. For close-up shots, move the camera to achieve the minimum focus distance of 0.3 m. Autofocus operates via the integrated STM motor—switch to manual focus if precise fine-tuning is required.

Recommendations

For portraits, position the subject a few metres from the background and use f/1.8–f/2.8 for pleasing background separation. When shooting in low light, raise ISO or slow shutter speed while monitoring for camera shake; a tripod can help for slower exposures.
