Cavo ottico attivo (AOC) CBO SFP28-AOC-3M Viavi 3 m SFP28

CBO Viavi SFP28-AOC-3M is a 3 m Active Optical Cable (AOC) with SFP28 connectors engineered for 25 Gb/s point-to-point interconnects between servers, switches and network interface cards. As an active optical link, this AOC delivers low latency and immunity to electromagnetic interference while consuming less power than equivalent copper direct-attach solutions. The compact form factor and 3 meter length make it suitable for short-reach data center connections, top-of-rack to leaf spine links and other rack-to-rack cabling where reliable high-speed transmission is required.

Advantages

The Active Optical Cable provides stable 25 Gb/s bandwidth with minimal signal loss over the 3 m length. Optical transmission eliminates susceptibility to EMI and crosstalk common in copper assemblies, improving signal integrity in dense rack environments. Compared with passive copper cables, the AOC reduces power draw and helps maintain lower thermal output in switch and server bays. Integrated SFP28 connectors ensure hot-pluggable installation and compatibility with equipment supporting the SFP28 interface.

Suitable for

• Short-reach data center links between servers, switches and NICs
• Top-of-rack to aggregation/leaf switch connections
• Rack-to-rack cabling within the same room or adjacent racks
• Environments requiring EMI-immune high-speed links

Key specifications

• Data rate: 25 Gb/s
• Cable type: Active Optical Cable (AOC)
• Connector: SFP28 on both ends
• Length: 3 metres
• Latency: low, suitable for latency-sensitive applications
• Power consumption: lower than equivalent copper direct-attach cabling
• EMI performance: immune to electromagnetic interference

How to use

Install the AOC by inserting each SFP28 connector into the appropriate SFP28 port on the network devices until the module latches. No separate transceiver or fiber patching is required. The cable supports hot-plug operation; ensure devices are configured for 25 Gb/s operation and compatible with SFP28 AOC modules. For best results, verify link status through the switch or NIC management interface after insertion and monitor for any firmware or compatibility notes from the equipment vendor.

Recommendations

Route the cable to avoid sharp bends and excessive strain; maintain the manufacturer’s minimum bend radius and secure the cable to prevent tension on the connectors. Use this 3 m AOC for short-reach connections within racks or between adjacent racks and consult device compatibility lists if using in mixed vendor environments.
